Sao's Haus und davor das 'Tor der Liebenden'. Ich bin mit meinem Hochzeitszug dadurch gegangen. Sao's Bruder (Pi Nuu - Bruder Maus) hat das gesammte Haus Renoviert. Vorher war alles in grau. Jetzt mit roemischen Saeulen in einem hellen gruen/weiss. Sao's House and in front of it the 'Portal of Love' with al heart shaped balloons. I will have to walk through this with my wedding parade. Sao's brother renovated the entire house. It used to be all grey, now it shines with its 'Roman' pillars in a mild green and white. Der Weg zum Haus mit Musik zum selber anhoeren und reinschauen. Ich war so aufgeregt, ich haette mir fast in die... Naja, als ich die Eltern von Sao gesehen habe, haette ich fast angefangen zu heulen. Es dann doch nochmal runterschlcuken koennen. On the way to Sao's home, to get some impressions. Listen yourselves. I was so tensed that I almost... Well, wenn I saw Sao's parents I almost cried. I am such a sissy. I swallowed it down and remained cool outside. That is the most important thing, isn't it?

Sao's Eltern (links) erwarten uns schon vor dem Haus. Sar (ein Freund von mir von der Webster University) traegt den traditionellen Schirm fuer mich. Er ist aus dem Norden Thailand's (Chieng Mai) und es war sein erstes Mal im Sueden. Es hat ihm gut gefallen. Wie jedem der in den Bann des Suedens geraet. Sao's parents, on the left, are waiting forus in front of the house. Sar, a friend of mine from Wesbter, is carrying a 'traditional' umbrella. He's from the north of Thailand (Chieng Mai) and this is his first time in southern Thailand. He said he liked it, because the people are more honest and more direct. I think he's also caught by the southern mentality. Kurz vor dem Eintreten ins Haus... Just before entering the house... Die erste Begegnung von Rita und Sao's Eltern. Hier sehr schoen festgehalten. Ich weiss nicht, wer aufgeregter war. Sao's Eltern davor Rita zu treffen oder umgekehrt... The first time Rita and Sao's parents meet. Nice shot....

Schuhe sauber? Ok! Are you're Shoes clean?! OK! Wasser fuer die Geister und Raeucherstaebchen. Damit ich nur Gutes ins Haus bringe. Water and incent for the spirits. May I bring only blessings to the house. Meine ersten Schritte im Haus und ich habe meine Hand in einer Schale Wasser. Ausserdem im Wasser: ein paar Kornaehren. "Warum?" - "Tobi, ich weiss es auch nicht" ^^ My 'first steps' inside the house. My hand is in a bowl of water. Apart from my hand and water in the bowl: some weeds. 'Why? Oh, why?' - 'Tobi, I don't know, either' Tobi kommt auch ins Haus, aber wie aus den Schuhen mit vollen Haenden? Tobi enters the house. How to get rid of your shoes if your hands are full? Und jetzt alles vorbereiten, bevor Robin wieder rauskommt. Some final preparations before Robin comes back.

Und hier die Eltern. Das gehoert zur Verlobungs-/Hochzeitszeremonie. Wir erhalten den Segen der Eltern. Meet the parents. This is part of the engagement/wedding ceremony. We are receiving the blessings of the parents. Tobi's Gesicht ist ein Fragezeichen. Meines ist 'Ich habe keine Ahnung, aber is schoen wa!' Tobi's face displays a question mark. Mine says, 'I have no idea what is happening, but I like it' Den Segen der Mutter und des Vaters haben wir... We received the blessings of Sao's mom and dad. Und auch von meiner Mutter. And my mother's, too.

Der Ring ist fuer gut befunden worden und ich kann ihn Sao uebergeben. After close inspection has the ring I brought been deemed to be 'OK' and I can give it to Sao. Genauso wie die Goldkette. As the golden neclace. Und das goldene Armband. And the golden armlace.

Sao ist danach wieder in ihrem (unserem) Zimmer verschwunden und ich muss mir den Weg 'freikaufen'. Wieder mit roten Umschlaegen... Sao went back into her room. Ich have to 'bribe' my way to her. Again by the means of red envelopes. Mit viel Charm wird es auch nicht so teuer... The trick is to negotiate and to use humour, otherwise it can be quite expensive... They are laughing. This is a good sign. So dass ich zum Schluss noch ne ganze Tasche voller roter Umschlaege uebrig habe. Finally, my pocket is still filled with prepared red envelopes. 'left-overs'

Hab ich mir so gedacht. Dann will die Schwester nochmal einen Umschlag haben fuer die Blumen (die ich ja erst am morgen abgeholt und bezahlt habe). Eigentlich will sie mehr haben, aber da muss man halt handeln... I thought. Then Sao's sister wants another envelope for giving me the flowers which I bought this morning. I gave her one. She asked for more. I negotiate. One it is. What a bargain! Ein Umschlag genug? Nein? Gibt aber nicht mehr! Ha! One enough? No? You won't get more than that! Ha! Blumen und dann alle auf's Bett fuer Fotos. Flowers and then everybody on the bed to take pictures. Bitte laecheln! Smile, please! Schon besser! This is more like it!

Dann nochmal raus wieder auf die Couch und das 'Brautgeld' wird uebergeben. Now, outside again. Again onto the couch, the handing over of the dowry. Von Rita an mich... From Rita (my mom) to me... An Sao... To Sao... An ihre Eltern... To her parents...

Von draussen dringen sanfte Klaenge herein From outside traditional sounds enter the house

Das war der eigentlich interessanteste Teil der ganzen Zeremonnie (fuer mich). Wir waren zusammen mit unserem Zeremonie Leiter und einem Medium in einem Raum. Dort haben wir dann den Geistern geopfert und das Medium hat sich in Trance versetzt und auf einmal auf arabisch (!!!) geredet. Nicht ganz ungewoehnlich als Buddhistische Thai/Chinesin... This was quite interesting, for me the most interesting part of the ceremony. We were together with the head of the ceremony and a medium in our room. There we made offerings to the spirits. The medium went to trance and suddenly spoke in arabic, fluently. Not quite typical for a buddhist Thai/Chinese woman.

In Wahrheit opfern wir es den Geistern... In truth: this is our offering to the spirits. Und werden dabei gesgnet. And we are being blessed along the way. Und dann nochmal dem Hausgeist... And again wai-ing the spirit of the house.
